antiques

Welcome;

I have a few items which I no longer need as I am now, myself, an antique. If you are interested in any of these items, please email me; link near the bottom.

old bottles I know nothing about bottles, but I've been told that these are very old.

antiques This is an envelope intended for use in the mail; it has a photograph on one side; here I show front and back.

old radio tubes Remember these? Believe it or not, radios used to have them and would not work without them. I have 12 of them.

antiques This is a postcard advertising shares; here I show front and back.

old books This is a VERY OLD little book. A few pages are loose but still in place. It measures 3 3/4" x 6 1/2" and has 302 pages.

antiques This very old little boolet is in the Dutch language It has 12 pages; the paper is very thick and so old that it is brittle.

The writing in the front cover indicates that it was given "to my dear nephew Radje by P. Baan Muller, in Amsterdam, on 3 Jan. 1917.

It was later given to ME ("Kees") by my uncle Gerard in Amersfoort, Holland on 1-3-1950.

old beer bottles Remember these old KEG-SHAPED beer bottles? This case has ELEVEN full, still sealed, bottles.

antiques I've been told that these are antiques; not sure. The middle one has a price of "26 cents" on the cap.

strange knife What is this? The handle seems to be, from the tarnish, silver plated.

Well, wonder no longer; I got this email:

Hi! I really enjoyed your web pages!! I did want you to know that your knife (in your antique section) that you wondered what it was...it is what is known as a "picnic knife", it has a bottle opener, the serrated edge for cutting, and the tip is for sticking pickles, olives, etc. ...thus, a picnic knife. I have one from my grandmother many years ago and that is what she told me it was. I hope this will help you, please continue your blogs, I just love them!
Thanks!! Dixie from Virginia, USA

antiques This is a very old bread toaster!

old insulator An old insulator from some kind of powerline.

antiques This old cow bell still "clangs" very nicely.

antiques This old carpenter's level is VERY, VERY old; it measures 6 inches x 1 3/8 inches x 3/4 inch and still works just fine.

old bottles I really have no idea about the ages of these two bottles and their corks; they sure LOOK old to me.

antiques I really do not know WHAT these are nor how old they might be. They measure 3 3/8 inches high. They appear to be made of brass.

antiques I have about 4 dozen of these old beer bottles. Dug them out of a garbage dump many, many years ago, far up the Alaska Highway.

This final one is a Program for a concert season 1914 - 1915; front and back shown here:
